Have you Bean to that Cafe?

2015. Sublimation printing onto chiffon.

“Coffee’s done more for cities in the past 25 years than architecture’s done in the past 150.” – Sir Ian Athfield, as seen on a Havana coffee billboard.

Wellington has more cafes per capita than New York, making it the ultimate place to be to get your fix. Coffee culture in Wellington is a serious matter, and where you buy and consume your coffee is even more serious. From the friendly waterfront family cafes to the grungy inner city holes in the wall, there is a café for everyone. The appeal of Wellington cafes is the atmosphere, décor, and people just as much as the coffee. Being able to take my pick of seaside locations on a Sunday for a coffee, people watching, dog spotting and enjoying the sun is one of my favourite parts of living in Wellington

Illustrated through rapid gestural line drawings and fluid brush strokes, Have you bean to that café is a whimsical study of people I have seen in transient snapshots in time at various cafes around Wellington.
