2016- Digital and hand embroidery

An elective paper for my final year of university, our brief was to be inspired by the Botanical Gardens and design for a client a garment using digital and hand embroidery techniques as well as other technology if applicable. Our clients were (to choose from) Peter Pilotto, Mary Katrantzou or Jacob Schlaepfer. Inspired by the bizarre, the hybrid, the genetically modified, symmetrical and the flamboyant I took the idea of humans modifying plants to create something more beautiful and developed this through collaging plants together to create plant alien hybrids, focussing on symmetry and texture. My final designs include digital embroidery, french knotting, applique and sequins using all man made materials and as weird and shiny as I like.
